About CMS
Cardinal Montessori School provides a child-centered education for children from the ages of 3 to 12 (Pre-K thru 6th grade). At all age levels, children:
- work in multi-age classrooms that encourage peer-based learning
- are guided to be independent learners who learn to problem solve and ask teachers for help when needed
- are respected as children eager to learn and capable of learning to their fullest potential
- are valued and seen as having unique development needs (social, emotional, cognitive, and physical)
We recognize that children have different learning styles, and students are free to learn at their own pace. Teachers not only guide the children academically they also model respect, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution. The multi-age classrooms function as communities in which older students mentor and assist younger students and all students are encouraged to collaborate with each other and treat each other with respect and kindness.
CMS is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), Virginia Montessori Association (VAMA), National Private Schools Accreditation Group, Virginia Child Care Association, Virginia Council for Private Education, and the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce.
"There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community." ~ Maria Montessori
